It envisions a desired future and identifies ways to make it happen. In this module, we will walk you through the strategic planning process. We define strategic planning and explain its purpose within an organization. We will explain the six major elements of a strategic plan and show how each element fits into its overall structure. We will discuss the identification of critical success factors and key performance indicators as part of a strategic plan. We will explain the importance of the strategic gap in developing strategies and action plans. Finally, we will review the relationship between the strategic plan and the annual budget.
